Our Story
I realised that as a child, I was never taught about money. Coming from a modest background, my parents provided us with our basic necessities, but there was never enough for me to buy things that I wanted.
I started working as a teenager to earn money so I could buy whatever I want. With income from part time jobs as a student, I spent most of my earnings on things that I didn’t need. The only money concepts I knew about was spending, and saving leftovers, which sometimes didn’t even happen because I had spent it all.
My transformative moment came when I was working as a sales manager in one of the top banks in Malaysia. With a stressful work environment and burnout, I wanted to quit my job, but I couldn’t make that decision right then because I did not even have 6 months income in my bank account to sustain me.
This hit me hard. I was well educated. I was even earning a rather good income. Everyone would think that I made it in life. And yet, my financial position was still so terrible.
I realised that it was due to my money habits that were cultivated since I was young. And these habits have impacted my life so much that even when I grew my income, it was never enough to sustain my lifestyle.
I didn’t want kids or the children in my community to go through what I did. I didn’t want them to make the same money mistakes. So, I started something special called “Little Tauke.” We teach kids about money and how to be wise with it from a young age. My hope is that by learning these lessons early on, they’ll have not just choices and freedom but also a brighter and more secure future to look forward to.
